You have finally gotten the degree and now you are ready to go into the business you have been planning all these years. However, there are things to deal with in order to achieve the desired results. Having crammed all the while in school and attended classes in your pajamas, you must have learnt some bad habits that should be flushed out before venturing into the business world.
Before venturing into the business, these habits shortly outlined have to be eliminated. Procrastination
College students easily learn procrastination. However, there is no place for this habit in the startup world. You will be doing yourself more harm than good if you will leave things undone to the very last hour. You will only end up creating for yourself a major headache that will lead to further dissatisfaction and problem on your path.
Living in your Pajamas
This is not a time to wear pajamas to classes. An entrepreneur should dress well and look polished when going for any convention, meeting or networking. In case you are not really good in dressing, take a look at what people wear and then go for clothes that look nice and show off your professionalism.
Regular texting
Texting is the norm in the world today as it is an effective communication between friends and colleagues. However, you need to know when to call the fellow rather than texting. This is mostly important for entrepreneurs to ensure a smooth sail in their businesses. More so, you should avoid texting while you are with your customers and business associates. This is because if you are often busy with your phone screen, your associates and customers will see you as rude and therefore may not establish the required business relationship with you.
Unnecessary posts on your social media
Avoid posting unnecessary pictures in your social media. Pictures showing off where you are beer bonging should be avoided. Such pictures and behaviors could have been appropriate while you were in college but they do not fit into the startup world. You do not actually know who will access your profile pages at any given point in time. Your personal pictures should be reserved for your friends alone.
Living the college life
The college days are gone, you are now trying to create something new. When connecting with people as a new entrepreneur, you will likely share in their experiences. It is good to note that some people you might be connecting to may not have been privileged to attend college. Thus, keep conversation related to your college life all to yourself. You should be able to come up with a topic that will interest everyone and call for their participation.
Non-stop partying
When you are a startup founder, one of the most important things to put into consideration is sleep. It may be however difficult to choose to sleep when you could have gone partying with your college friends. It is important to adjust your lifestyle in line with the real world of entrepreneurship which truly revolves around the workday.
Being Fake
It is common to try fitting and being fake in the college. People tell some white lies in order to be seen as a part of some groups in a college. However, this is not the same in the world of entrepreneurship. Honesty is an important virtue that cannot be overstated in the world of entrepreneurs. You must be able to clearly state your expectations and also make constructive and candid criticism.
